Thrang Crag forest, on the shores of Coniston Water, is one of my favourite places. A couple of years back, I met the farmer who owns it out walking. He was a lovely old guy – patiently listening as I waxed lyrical about this beautiful wood. The following year, I met him again, and asked if he remembered us talking. He paused, looked at me thoughtfully and then exclaimed, “You’re tree nut!” in his thick Cumbrian accent. He had me in two words. “I am,” I said : )
