In all the years I’ve been visiting this ancient wildwood, I’ve never managed to get within 100 yards of its shy inhabitants. This doe was bounding away, as they always do as soon as they hear footsteps, but she stopped and looked back at me. I had the zoom lens, and slowly moved the camera up, expecting her to bolt any second. Instead, she stood there, head tilted curiously, and watched me for a while. Just loved her expression here.
