Across the river Derwent from Hazel Bank Country House, there’s a forest called Johnny’s Wood, rising up the fells. It’s a beautiful wood. When you climb up through it, emerging from the top, you find what feels like a secret valley – looking down from the Borrowdale  towards Seathwaite.
